If everybody on the planet lived like people in the US and Canada, we would need more than one planet. So even if wealthier people may care about the environment more, they still contribute to environmental problems much more than poor people. Yet we also need to take into account that the wealthier people become, the more they pollute.
As Pinker mentioned, we know that when people become more wealthy and more educated they begin to care more about the environment. That makes sense and perhaps we should be more optimistic.īut when talking about climate change and pollution, we need to consider the fact that wealth is a double-edged sword. He thinks that, if we think of climate change as a problem, we can definitely find a solution by relying on science and technology.
